Troopers were tasked with monitoring the festivities surrounding Shippensburg University's homecoming weekend on Friday, Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 20.
Foot patrol officers heard multiple gunshots near South Penn Street and Dykeman Road in Shippensburg Township around 1:30 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 19. two men wearing hoodies were seen running from the shooting.
One of the accused shooters was located and identified as 22-year-old Evan Sipes of Shippensburg, according to the police and confirmed by prison and court records.
He was found with a concealed handgun without a serial number and multiple ammunition clips, according to PSP. He resisted arrest and attempted to escape after he was in custody, as explained in the release.
The other man involved in the shooting has not been found, but thankfully no injuries were reported.
The shooting arrest was one of 12 arrests made in connection with the homecoming detail.
The following additional twelve arrests were also made:
- 1 illegally possessed firearm was seized during a traffic stop.
- 3 drug arrests.
- 1 harassment.
- 1 public drunk.
- 3 underage drinking arrests.
- 3 fake identification arrests.
None of the incidents happened on Shippensburg University campus and they did not involve any students, state police and the university confirmed.
